Richard Cerato is a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

His directorial debut, April is Over, had its world premiere at the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow, before transferring to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where it received 5 stars and was heralded as "entirely human, entirely recognizable, and yet completely original".

Originally from Southern California, Richard trained with Ballet Pacifica, Laguna Beach Ballet, and California Conservatory of the Arts, before attending the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Additionally, Richard completed a 2017 directing residency at Shakespeare's Globe in London (Globe Education), where he assisted on Troilus and Cressida, and directed The Duchess of Malfi under the mentorship of Nick Hutchison, Yolanda Vasquez, James Garnon, and Colin Hurley. 

Acting credits include original casts on Broadway (Soul Doctor), Off-Broadway (Dear Edwina), and touring companies nationally in the U.S. (Joseph…), and 6 countries internationally (Cinderella, Fame, Soul Doctor). Richard has been seen in films, commercials, on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and in Taylor Swift’s Shake it Off.

Directing/Choreographing credits include music videos for Gabrielle Stravelli and Liam Forde; new works for Bard in the Botanics, Traverse, Oran Mor, Edinburgh Festival Theatre, and Playwrights’ Studio Scotland in the UK; the Israel Festival in Jerusalem; Galeries Lafayette and Zhangjiang Theatre Valley in Shanghai; Georgetown Palace, Alchemy, TexArts, and Ground Floor in Austin; Arts for Alz, benefitting the Alzheimer’s Association, and At Home Artists Project benefitting the Transgender Law Center.

Richard regularly teaches at Carol Hickey Acting Studio.
